Julieta Garibay

Nurse, Activist, Undocumented Immigrant

Julieta came to the United States as a young girl. While in college at the University of Texas at Austin, she helped form the University Leadership Initiative to address the obstacles facing undocumented students in college and post-graduation. The group became a stepping stone to promoting higher education for immigrant students through educating the public about in-state tuition laws and the DREAM Act. Julieta has risked deportation by becoming a public face of undocumented youth in our nation. Her voice came to represent not only herself but also future generations as well as her parents who were not able to pursue higher education.
