"Sen. Rodney Ellis, D-Houston, has served as a Texas state senator from Houston for 13 years, and is presently chairman of the Senate Committee on Government Organization. He is also an attorney and co-founder of Apex Securities, Inc., an investment banking firm. Before being elected to the Texas Senate in 1990, Ellis served three terms on the Houston City Council.From 1999 to 2001, he was President Pro Tem of the Senate, and has chaired the Senate Finance, Jurisprudence and Intergovernmental Relations Committees. Ellis holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Southern University as well as a master's degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and a law degree from the University of Texas School of law.
