Politicians
Julián & Joaquin Castro

Notes from Evan Smith
"Identical twins Julián and Joaquin Castro are politicians from San Antonio. Julián serves on the San Antonio City Council, and Joaquin is a state representative.
The Castros are both graduates of Stanford and Harvard Law School. They are employed by the prestigious San Antonio law firm Gonzales Hoblit Ferguson, where Julián focuses on litigation while Joaquin focuses on real estate law and litigation.
Shortly after finishing school, the Castros, inspired by their mother Rosie Castro, a long-time grassroots political activist and co-founder of La Raza Unida, decided to enter the political arena. Julián went first -- running for city council, while Joaquin acted as treasurer on his campaign. He won with 61 percent of the vote, beating five other candidates, making him the youngest person elected to the council at the age of 26. Joaquin followed suit in 2002 with his election to the Texas House of Representatives." - Evan Smith, Texas Monthly Talks, Broadcast 5.27.04
