What is the “Friends of Austin City Limits” program?
The Friends of Austin City Limits program grants you the exclusive opportunity to attend live tapings of KLRU’s signature national series, Austin City Limits. Your membership also supports KLRU and public television in Central Texas.
How can I become a member?
Due to the popularity of this membership group and the space limitations of the studio, KLRU is currently not accepting new members to the Friends of Austin City Limits group. If you would like more information about the program or if you would like to be placed on the waiting list, please contact acl-reservations@klru.org.
What are the benefits of being a member of the “Friends of Austin City Limits” program?
With your membership, you will receive passes to live tapings of Austin City Limits, recognition in the printed taping programs and invitations to exclusive KLRU events.
You may choose from several different packages:
$15,000 Friends membership includes:
$10,000 Friends membership includes:
$5,000 Friends membership includes:
How long will my membership last?
Each membership is valid for 12 months. For example, if you sign up May 1st, your membership will expire the following April 30th. You will have an opportunity to renew your membership each year, or you may also sign up for a lifetime membership.
Is there any particular time of year that is more advantageous to join?
Since each membership period is for a calendar year, no matter when you join you will have access to about 18 tapings over a period of 12 months.
When do the tapings occur?
The taping schedule is not set in advance of the season. We work on it year-round as we try to accommodate the artists’ touring schedules. Although it varies from year to year, the season generally runs from March to October. We have calculated from past seasons that about 70% of our tapings occur between June and October.
Is this membership tax deductible?
Because your gift to KLRU is considered a donation( i.e. you receive no marketable goods or services for your membership), and passes to Austin City Limits are our way of thanking you for that donation, you may be able to consider your membership tax deductible. Please cnosult a tax attorney before making any official claims.
How do I get passes/find out about tapings?
As a Friend of ACL, you will receive a taping notification via email for each upcoming taping. This e-mail will contain all the important information including the performing artist, the date and time of the taping, and the deadline to request passes. If you request passes for that taping, they will be available at Will Call one hour before the taping begins. See map and directions for specific information about the location of KLRU.
Do I get to come to all of the tapings?
Each season, we will invite you to approximately 18 tapings. You may choose to RSVP for any taping you would like to attend within your number of allotted passes. When you request passes, we deduct them from your annual allotment. Occasionally, we have to limit the number of requested passes for a taping based on studio capacity.
Who are the upcoming artists?
We host a variety of fantastic artists each season, from musical legends to new and rising stars. In recent seasons, we have hosted Ben Harper, Kenny Chesney, Allen Toussaint, Dave Matthews Band, Mos Def, K’naan, Pearl Jam and many more.
Where do I go for a taping?
KLRU is located within the UT Communications Complex (CMB) on the southeast corner of Guadalupe Street and Dean Keaton (formerly 26th). It is a big brown building. Please click here for a detailed map with driving instructions.
Where should I park?
Parking near the UT campus is always a challenge, so please allow ample time to find a space. Some UT surface lots are open for parking in the evening, but be sure to read the signs to find out if there are permit restrictions. Covered parking is also available for a small fee at the UT parking garage at 25th and San Antonio streets. For a map, please click here. The Capital Metro bus system is another great alternative for visiting our studio. Click here for bus routes to the UT campus. You may also use parking meters along the perimeter of some campus streets.
What time do I need to arrive?
We recommend that you arrive approximately one hour before a taping begins. Taping dates and times vary so please refer to the e-mail notification as to what time the doors open and when a taping is scheduled to begin.
Thirty minutes prior to the taping time, we will release the unclaimed, remaining passes to the public standing in the space available line. If you are running late, we will do our best to accommodate you when you arrive. However, once we have reached our capacity, we are unable to admit any additional people into the studio and we will have to turn you away. All unclaimed tickets will be deducted from your annual allotment.
How do I pick up my passes to the tapings?
If you request passes for a taping, your tickets will be available at Will Call in the courtyard of the UT Communications Complex one hour before the taping begins. To see a map of the complex, please click here.
Can I choose where I sit? Do you have reserved seating?
The ACL studio is open seating. Please note that when you pick up your tickets for the taping you will not have a pre-assigned seat, so feel free to choose any seat in the house. If you prefer a certain seat or section, we suggest that you arrive early. There are 270 available seats in the studio so if you arrive after all our seats are filled, you can stand in the space in front of the stage. The intimate space of the studio makes every seat in the studio a great seat.
Can I bring kids to a taping?
Although we do not have an official age limitation, we discourage bringing children under 10 years old to tapings. The sound in the studio is very loud and may cause hearing damage; we serve cold beer at the tapings; and we request that people remain silent while the artist is performing. Please use your parental discretion.
Can other people use my passes?
Yes. You may direct your guests to ask for the tickets in your name. As a security measure, you may also indicate your guest names when you request tickets online. However, please be advised that passes to ACL tapings cannot be sold, raffled or auctioned to any individual or organization as it would jeopardize the tax deductibility of your donation.
How many passes do I have remaining?
Once you have logged in as a member on the Friends of Austin City Limits website, you can check your remaining number of passes. We update this website regularly to give you an accurate, updated count.
What if I run out of passes?
If you run out of tickets, you may renew your membership before your membership year is up. When you renew your membership, you may begin using your new tickets immediately. Also, your membership expiration date will change. Your membership will expire 12 months from the date you renewed.
I am a member of the Friends of Austin City Limits program, but I am no longer receiving taping notices. What is wrong?
First, please check your “spam” folder to make sure the notices are not accidentally filtering in that folder. The taping notification e-mail is sent from “Friends of Austin City Limits” at acl-reservations@klru.org. If you cannot find an e-mail from us, please e-mail acl-reservations@klru.org, and we will correct the error immediately. When you request passes, please be sure you don’t uncheck the box that says “Yes, I would like to receive periodic updates and communications from KLRU” or you will no longer receive the taping notification emails.
How do I renew my membership?
We hope you will join us for another exciting year by renewing your membership with Friends of Austin City Limits. Click here to renew online.
Is there any other way to attend the tapings, besides becoming a Friend of ACL?
The best way to secure passes to each taping is to become a Friend of Austin City Limits. However, we do offer “space available” passes. A few days before a particular taping, we will announce a giveaway of space available passes for an upcoming taping. You can find these announcements on various radio stations, the artist’s fan web sites, and other outlets. You can also check for upcoming artists by calling the ACL hotline at (512) 475-9077. A limited number of space available passes are made available for each taping on a first-come, first-served basis. Space available passes entitle their holder to a place in line to gain entrance to the studio if there is space. If there is space, we will allow people to enter the studio approximately 30 minutes before the taping begins.
