The catastrophic March 11, 2011 earthquake in East Japan, the ensuing tsunami and the nuclear power plant accident left nearly 20,000 people dead or missing. More than a year later, many citizens remain evacuated from their homes and are still struggling to recover from the devastation. TOMORROW BEYOND 3/11, a new documentary series from NHK WORLD, focuses on Japan's long road to reconstruction following the disaster. World-renowned musicians, actors, designers, artists and scholars travel to the hardest-hit regions to visit and inspire victims who are still striving to rebuild their lives.
