Living As A Castaway And Loving It

The Casualties of Qatar - The deplorable conditions facing migrant workers in Qatar, as it prepares to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022, first came to light around a year ago. The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) estimates that the country is temporary home to more than 1.4 millions migrant workers, many of whom come from Nepal. For some of these Nepalese workers, the promise of a better life has turned into a nightmare. The Bonobos of the Democratic Republic of Congo - Decades of war has taken its toll on the rain-forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo, as has hunting and farming. A WWF project based near Lake Tumba is designed to limit further damage. Top of the agenda is protecting the local bonobo population. This is the only place on earth where they exist, but they are threatened by logging and human encroachment. The project is designed to safeguard biodiversity; promote sustainable forestry and limit illegal logging. In the long run, a thriving bonobo population could also attract tourists to the region. Za'atari's "Guardian Angel" - Za'atari is a refugee camp north of Amman, Jordan, which is now home to a population of over 100,000. Life here is fraught with danger, especially for women. Many of them seek advice and practical support from "Mama Munira." Munira Sha'ban came out of retirement to work as a nurse-midwife for Syrian refugees in the Za'atari camp. She advocates for family planning and offers advice and support to pregnant women. The Businessman Turned Castaway - Turquoise sea, sandy beaches, coral reefs - and no tourists far and wide. Restoration Island is an unspoiled natural paradise off the north coast of Australia. Dave Glasheen moved here after he lost a fortune in the stock market crash of 1987 and decided to turn his back on modern society. But will he be allowed to stay?
