Bone Marrow Transplants: Serious Anti-cancer Thera

A bone marrow transplant is a medical procedure that can be used to cure diseases once thought incurable especially certain cancers of the blood. Since its first successful use in the late 1960s thousands of people have undergone bone marrow transplantation. But as successful as this procedure can be, it has significant side effects and the recovery process can be difficult. In this program we take an in depth look at how bone marrow transplantation works to treat diseases like Leukemia, Multiple Myeloma and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. We will explore the different types of bone marrow transplants and see the role stem cells play. We'll talk with patients who have had bone marrow transplants and hear their advice to others who may be considering this potentially life-saving procedure.
