Mail On The Fly, The Railroad Post Office
series: All Aboard
air date: 6/08/13 11:30 AM
Nearly a century and a half ago, the United States Post Office saw the great advantage of utilizing the speed and efficiency of the Railroad as a cornerstone to moving letters and packages across America. All across the continent, post offices were built near Railroad stations to ease the transfer and increase the speed of railway delivery. This story is brought to life through the interviews of real RPO clerks, historic newsreels and the complete restoration of a 1921 Railway Post Office car.
