Reading Rainbow 2008 Contest

KLRU
is proud to have presented the Fourteenth Annual Reading Rainbow
Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. This local competition encouraged children in kindergarten through third grade to create their own original picture books.
The Reading Rainbow's Young Writers & Illustrators Contest is meant to be fun -- and a chance for children to express themselves and be recognized for their creative efforts.
After reading 170 books submitted by the children of Central Texas, KLRU judged our first, second and third place winners in Kindergarten through Third grade. The first place winners in each grade went on to the national contest. Each child who entered the local contest was awarded with a certificate signed by Lavar Burton. We then celebrated our local winners in a wonderful ceremony in May. See the local winners listed below.
The 14th Annual National Contest winning stories will be posted on pbskids.org/readingrainbow in early August. Later in August, 100+ additional 14th Contest stories will be posted -- including one local first place winner from KLRU!
The Web site also features fun, engaging activities and games for kids and information about READING RAINBOW for parents and teachers.
