Austin series honored with Emmy Awards

KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, earned more Lone Star Emmy Awards than any other Texas PBS station and more awards than any other Austin television station at a ceremony on Oct. 21. KLRU productions The Biscuit Brothers, Downtown, and Texas Monthly Talks received a total of four Emmy Awards from the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Texas Parks and Wildlife, a locally-produced series airing on KLRU, also received one Emmy Award. KLRU productions and programs received a total of 12 Emmy nominations, the most nominations KLRU has received at one time.

The Biscuit Brothers “You Got Style” episode received the best Children/Youth Program award. The second season of this music education series airs Saturdays at 8 a.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m. on KLRU. This series is produced by Biscuit Biz Productions and presented to PBS stations across the nation by KLRU.

Downtown, which also received a 2005 Lone Star Emmy Award, received two 2006 awards. The series’ “22 to Watch” story received the best Arts/Entertainment Program Feature award. The episode featuring this segment will air on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 8:30 p.m. on KLRU. The “Arts from the Streets” story received the best Public/Current/Community Affairs Feature award. This series is produced by the Downtown Austin Alliance and Action Figure in conjunction with KLRU.

Texas Monthly Talks was recognized as best Interview/Discussion Program. The fifth season of this series currently airs at 7 p.m. Thursdays on KLRU. Upcoming episodes include Tom Brokaw: November 2, Judith Ivey: November 9, Lawrence Wright: November 16, and Mack Brown: November 23.

The four Emmy Awards for KLRU productions are the most the station has received at one time and puts KLRU at the top of Texas PBS with other PBS affiliates receiving a total of three awards. KERA in Dallas received two awards and KUHT in Houston received one award.

Texas Parks and Wildlife’s segment titled “How to be a Game Warden in Six Easy Months” received the best Magazine Program Feature award. This series is a production of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and airs Sundays at 9 a.m. on KLRU.

Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences:
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences was founded in 1957. It is dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. It recognizes excellence in television with the distinguished Emmy Award. The Lone Star Chapter, which is based in Dallas/Fort Worth, is dedicated to becoming the primary portal to connect professionals and students in Texas’ television broadcast-related fields for networking and career development.
