Anne Lamott talks faith and writing at
Spark: KLRU’s Engaging Speaker Series presented by AMD
Austin, Texas — Author Anne Lamott mixes quirky humor and unabashed spirituality to explore complicated issues. Lamott will lift, comfort, and inspire as part of Spark: KLRU’s Engaging Speaker Series presented by AMD on Tuesday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre.
Tickets are $37 (plus service fees) and are one sale now through klru.org/spark or at the Paramount Theatre box office at 713 Congress Avenue. KLRU’s Spark events feature a 45-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer session.
From alcoholism and motherhood to religion and family, Lamott uses a personal honesty in her writing that reflects her faith and life experiences. She is the author of numerous novels including Hard Laughter, Rosie, Joe Jones,
All New People and Crooked Little Heart, as well as four best-selling non-fiction works including Operating Instructions and Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life.
Lamott will be signing copies of her current book, the New York Times bestseller Grace (Eventually): Thoughts on Faith. This essay collection about faith and forgiveness has received massive critical praise and the Seattle Times called it “funny, pragmatic thoughts on human foibles and dignity.”
Lamott has been honored with a Guggenheim Fellowship, and has taught at U.C. Davis, as well as at writing conferences across the country. Her biweekly Salon magazine “online diary” Word by Word was voted The Best of the Web by Time magazine.
Over nine years, KLRU has established a reputation for bringing Austin some of the world's most talented and recognizable individuals through our Speaker Series. The content of the Series — purposefully diverse, thought provoking and relevant — is fashioned in the spirit of KLRU’s educational and inspirational programming. Spark is sponsored by AMD, Wells Fargo, The Austin Chronicle Austinist.com and KUT. All proceeds benefit KLRU-TV, a 501 c (3) non-profit organization.
