Local children write and illustrate their own books as part of KLRU project

Event to honor the winners of KLRU¹s (Austin PBS)
Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest

Austin area Kindergarten to third graders

Saturday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Ruiz Branch Library, 1600 Grove Blvd., in Austin  

ABOUT:

Each year students in kindergarten through third grade are
invited to create their own books with original stories and drawings. This year, KLRU received more than 150 book submissions from children in the Austin area. A panel of teachers and librarians judged the entries. Winners will receive a certificate signed by Reading Rainbow host LaVar Burton. All first place stories will soon be available on the Reading Rainbow 2006 Contest page.

The local Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest is one of many KLRU initiatives designed to take learning beyond the stations¹ PBS television program to help build a better community.
