KLRU presents new episodes of Austin-made series

New season premiere dates set.

Austin, TX — This month KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, presents new seasons of the shows made right here in Austin. From the nationally acclaimed Austin City Limits to the children’s series The Biscuit Brothers to the in depth discussion of Austin Now and Texas Monthly Talks to the Lone Star Emmy Award-winning arts series In Context, KLRU’s local productions offer programs that reflect the spirit and interests of Central Texas.

Each series also features an extensive Web site accessed through KLRU.org that includes complete schedule information, topic resources, video clips and much more. Highlights from KLRU’s new seasons include:

Austin City Limits 32nd season kicks off on Oct. 7 with a rare television appearance by former Kinks frontman Ray Davies. The show will also feature performances by Van Morrison, New Orleans Social Club, Juanes, Cat Power, Sufjan Stevens, The Raconteurs, Alejandro Escovedo, KT Tunstall, Damian Marley, Calexico and many others. Airs Saturdays at 7 p.m.; Wednesdays at 10 p.m. or 10:30 p.m. and Fridays at 11 p.m.

Austin Now’s new season features in depth explorations of the issues and people impacting Austin.  The new season begins on Sept. 29 with a special on playwright Steven Tomlinson. October features a three-part series on immigration issues airing Oct. 13, 20 and 27.  Airs Fridays at noon and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

The Biscuit Brothers are back with more episodes of their children’s series starting Saturday, Sept. 30.  This show has twice been nominated in the best children’s programming category of the Lone Star Emmys. Airs Saturdays at 8 a.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m.

Central Texas Gardener’s new season begins Oct. 7 with more local garden tours and expert advice. KLRU began distributing the program statewide last year. The show’s popularity has grown beyond the Texas border with the new season also airing in New Mexico. Airs Saturdays at noon and 4 p.m.; Thursdays at 12:30 p.m.

The Emmy Award-winning In Context returns for its second season on Oct. 6. This year the series that examines the creative process features artists from across the nation. This month includes Oct. 6: Contemporary figurative sculpture Todd Kurtzman; Oct. 13: Metalsmith Hawkeye Glenn; Oct. 20:  Stainless steel artist E. Moises Diaz; and Oct. 27: Installation artist Catherine Lee. Airs Fridays at 9:30 p.m. and Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m.

SXSW Presents has expanded to feature films up to one and a half hours long. This season begins on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with “Stephen Toblowsky’s Birthday Party” by director Robert Brinkman. The new season also includes “Last Days of San Jose,” “Viva Les Amis,” “Dreams of Sparrows” and “24 Hours on Craigslist.”  Airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. except Oct. 24; Oct. 24 at 9:30 p.m.

The new season of Texas Monthly Talks kicks off this month as the major gubernatorial candidates speak about the issues during special extended episodes airing at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays.  The schedule features Rick Perry, Oct. 12; Chris Bell, Oct. 19; Carole Keeton Strayhorn, Oct. 26; and Kinky Friedman, Nov. 2. Also this month in the show’s regular 7 p.m. Thursday timeslot is Former White House Chief of Staff James A. Baker on Oct. 5 and political humorist Al Franken on Oct. 12.
