ABOUT:
KLRU presents selections from the second annual Filming Austin's Lives contest, which is an outgrowth of the Writing Austin’s Lives project. This year’s contest challenged amateur and professional filmmakers in Central Texas to create short films focusing on life in “My Neighborhood.” This hour-long special features 12 films including: “Central Texas: My Neighborhood” by Clayton Williams; “Everyday Dreams” by Valerie Asensio; “Paved Paradise” by Elizabeth Breazile; “Carver: The Movie” by Steve Cavazos; “Manchaca: A Historic Community” by Roger Steele; “Lost Creek: Door to Door” by Marian Bingaman; “Conflict in the Hood” by Tom Suhler; “Marillah’s Neighborhood” by Amie King; “Mobile Manor RV Park” by Diane Tominaga; “Dough’s Neighborhood” by Brian Haddock; “Austin: My Ally” by Drew Saplin; and “Oh No!” by Todd Wrobleski.
KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, reflects, celebrates and inspires Central Texas through creative excellence, community engagement and lifelong learning. Although primarily a television station providing locally produced and quality national programming, KLRU is also a non-profit organization helping to build a stronger community through five areas of focus — KLRU Presents, KLRU Explores, KLRU Creates, KLRU Connects and KLRU Educates.
The Filming Austin’s Lives project is part of KLRU Connects. KLRU Connects brings people together to hear different perspectives through locally-produced shows like Austin Now and Texas Monthly Talks along with PBS shows like Newshour with Jim Lehrer and Frontline. But KLRU goes beyond television to convene town hall meetings and events that allow people to discuss critical issues like childhood cancer, diversity and politics and find solutions to community problems.
