KLRU’s Docubloggers receives Emmy Award

Austin, TX -- Docubloggers, the newest series from KLRU-TV, Austin PBS, received an Emmy Award from The Lone Star Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the community journalism show’s pilot episode. Other KLRU programs also received Emmy Awards at the annual ceremony on Oct. 27 including The Biscuit Brothers, Downtown and State of Tomorrow.

Docubloggers received the Magazine Program-Program/Special Emmy for an episode featuring stories about a rodeo cowboy, a jazz vocalist, a photographer focusing on mental health issues and the House of Elegance. The series combines submitted stories from the community with KLRU-produced pieces to create a collaborative collage of Central Texas. The series airs at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays on KLRU.

The Biscuit Brothers won an Emmy Award in the Children/Youth category for the “Folk Songs” episode. This KLRU co-production features Allen Robertson and Jerome Schoolar as The Biscuit Brothers and teaches children about music. The series’ new season begins this October and the show airs on Saturdays at 8 a.m. and Fridays at 11:30 a.m. on KLRU.

Downtown received three Emmy Awards for segments of the series. They were: “Slam Poets” in the Arts/Entertainment-Program Feature/Segment category; “The Magi’s Gift’s Before He Was O. Henry” in the Texas Heritage-Program Feature/Segment category; and “Experience Caring” in the Public/Current/Community Affairs-Feature/Segment category. Downtown, which features stories about the people and places of Austin’s downtown area, is a co-production of KLRU, the Downtown Austin Alliance and Action Figure. KLRU presents an encore broadcast of the show’s third season at 8:30 p.m. Thursdays.

State of Tomorrow, a series about the research taking place at Texas universities, received Emmy Awards for the “Disaster Response” segment in the Public/Current/Community Affairs-Program/Special category and the graphics for the show’s open Graphic Arts-Graphics-News category. State of Tomorrow is co-produced by the UT Foundation and Alpheus Media in association with KLRU.

KLRU productions and programs received 21 Emmy nominations. This is the most nominations KLRU has received at one time toping last year’s best of 12 nominations.
