Forever Free & Perpetually Honored

From the Texas State Convention of 1868 to the entrenchment of Jim Crow by 1898, there were 52 African Americans who served as Texas state legislators. Larry Thomas, an independent-thinking Austin resident, set out to learn about them; he soon dedicated himself to creating a monument in dedication to their service and their memory. So finally on March 30, 2010, a cenotaph was unveiled in a public ceremony at the Texas State Cemetery that was recorded by KLRU-TV. The 2 1/2 hour event has been condensed into a recording that spans just over an hour.
