From the Texas State Convention of 1868 to the entrenchment of Jim Crow by 1898, there were 52 African Americans who served in Texas state government. Larry Thomas, an independent-thinking Austin resident, set out to learn about them, and eventually dedicated himself to creating a monument in dedication to their service and their memory. Finally on March 30, 2010, a cenotaph was unveiled in a public ceremony at the Texas State Cemetery that was recorded by KLRU-TV.
The 2 1/2 hour event has been condensed into six parts that span just over an hour.
