Dr. Jesús F. de la Teja, the first and former Texas State Historian (2007-9) and History Department Chair at Texas State University, relates the story of how Africans came to Texas and the shape of African American survival in the state.
Illustrations are by artist Robert Jones, who is the Exhibit Coordinator at the George Washington Carver Museum in Austin, Texas.
