Family Choice

KLRU has great programs for kids and great programs for adults, but it's not easy to find programs that all family members can enjoy together. Each month, KLRU identifies a Family Choice program from our schedule that will interest and engage family members, ages 7 and up. Keep updated on the Family Choice program-of-the-month and ways your family can build and extend the program through discussion and activities.

The WordGirl series chronicles the adventures of Becky Botsford, a mild-mannered fifth grader who, at the call of duty, transforms into WordGirl – caped crusader and definition dynamo! When there is trouble in the big city, this super heroine-in-disguise uses vocabulary to defeat outlaws bent on “WORD” domination. With the help of her faithful monkey sidekick, Captain Huggy Face, WordGirl defeats a quirky cast of misfit bad guys and gals with her uncanny vocabulary skills and superhero strength.

In this program, WordGirl and Violet try to teach a spoiled brat to be generous and Granny May babysits WordGirl! The series goal is to expand kids’ vocabulary by exposing them to new words in a context they’ll find fun and inviting – a superhero comedy.
