Community Docublogger Tim Tsai submitted this short doc. He writes:
I learned about the “Loving v. Virginia” supreme court case during my undergraduate studies at U.C. Berkeley. The fact that interracial marriage was still banned in 1967 caught me by surprise, and I became interested in what appeared to be a radical shift in people’s attitudes toward interracial relationships over the past four decades.
Pursuing a graduate degree at U.T. Austin gave me an opportunity to be in one of 16 states that continued to enforce anti-miscegenation statutes until 1967. “Of Love and Race” is my attempt to examine this topic through the personal stories of interracial couples, but what became clear to me early in the filmmaking process was that for these couples, it’s the “relationship” that matters more than the “interracial”.
