To Do This Week

Week of September 15th, 2012

  • Plant cabbage, broccoli, collards, beets, carrots, and kohlrabi.
  • Think about naturalizing spring bulbs since they’ll be in nurseries soon. You want to get them while in stock. Wait until November to plant.
  • Get wildflower seeds to plant in a few weeks.
  • Watch for black spot on roses so that you can treat with fungicide before the problem gets out of control. Lightly prune and fertilize to get another flower burst this fall.
  • Divide iris and daylilies.
  • Avoid pruning fall-blooming perennials, since they’re about to explode!
