Move to Oregon.

Water the grass properly. A good soaking on an infrequent basis is what we want to do. A little sprinkling every day just promotes diseases on the turf. But a good soaking gets water down in the soil where it's in that bank account that the plant can draw on later on.
-
Put a slow hose on your trees to get the water down several inches. Avoid compacting the soil or adding further stress.
-
Stay on top of those weeds. I know that's not fun to weed in the heat of summer, but a little early morning weeding and mulching really cuts down on the work later. And it lets your plants get their full dose of water and nutrients without the competition.

Watch for chinch bugs. They'll soon be arriving in our lawns as well.
