Put out water for the wildlife! Even a shallow bowl with a rock in it will help our beneficial insects and birds.

Avoid botanical or soap sprays on your plants right now. If you must control pests you can’t squish, do it in early morning or evening when the sun is off. Wait 30 minutes and then rinse your plants. Oil or soap sprays in high heat can burn plant leaves.

It’s time to do a little clean-up. Gently cut back spring-flowering shrubs and perennials. Dead head summer plants (from the stem on many plants) to encourage more flowering.

Water wisely! Your news plants and trees need deep soaking right now. New small plants may need lighter doses of water but don’t drown them.
