Plant perennials, trees, roses, herbs (except for warm-weather herbs like basil)

Don't fertilize brand new plants. Let them get their roots established. You can give them a drench with liquid seaweed.

Dig up grass from around the trees.

Hold off on fertilizing the lawn. You can apply compost.

Pull or mow weeds to break the seed cycle. Herbicides will not help you now.
