To Do This Week

Week of December 11th, 2010

  • Weed! Spring weeds are coming up like crazy. You'll save yourself a lot of work later if you pluck or hoe them as you see them.
  • Divide crowded spring-blooming perennials, including coneflower, gallardia, and yarrow.
  • Plant carrots, onions, lettuce, spinach, dill, arugula, cilantro, lemon balm, and chamomile.
  • It's an excellent time to plant trees and shrubs. Just be sure to keep them watered well as we head into winter.
  • Best to wait a few more weeks to move trees and shrubs that need a better location. It will be much easier on them if you wait until it's cooler and they are dormant.
  • Since it's so dry, water your fruit trees to guarantee best production next spring.
  • Fertilize the lawn.
