Evergreen sumac (Rhus virens)
A small tree or shrub to 8-10′ tall and 6-8′ wide. Can be sprawling. Screening hedge or shrub in part shade to sun. Flowers and fruit attract wildlife from late summer through winter. Requires good drainage in sun to part shade.

Texas persimmon (Diospyros texana)
A small tree/shrub to 12-20′ high and 8-12′ wide. The bark is beautiful, akin to non-native crape myrtles. Flowers and fruit support wildlife. Sun to part shade.

Lacey oak (Quercus laceyi)

Noted for its grayish-blue leaves, this smaller tree is perfect for smaller landscapes. Mature size: 20-30′ high and 25′ wide. Grayish-blue leaves adorn this tree, suitable for smaller landscapes.

Coral honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens)
This evergreen vine is much tamer than crossvine or trumpet vine. It’s tubular, coral flowers blossom spring to summer. A favorite for hummingbirds. Plant in sun to part shade.

Tropical sage (Salvia coccinea)
This perennial that usually falls into the annual category for Central Texas attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Along with the native red, there are now varieties with white or salmon flowers. It likes some sun but appreciates afternoon shade. It seeds out vigorously.
