Potting mix for cactus plants, sedums and other succulents

In the ground or in containers, they require perfect drainage to avoid rot. For ground plants, amend with gritty material like decomposed granite and compost. You can also add expanded shale or basalt and minerals like lava sand.

If you’re potting up new plants, select a new pot just slightly larger than the one it came in. In the ground or in a container, avoid planting too deeply.

Container mix for succulents

• 1 1/2 parts compost
• 1 part decomposed granite
• 1 part lava sand or basalt
• 1 part vermiculite
• 2 parts perlite
• 1 part expanded shale (Haydite)

Feed your succulent plants with fish emulsion at 1/4 of its recommended rate.
