In the ground or in containers, they require perfect drainage to avoid rot. For ground plants, amend with gritty material like decomposed granite and compost. You can also add expanded shale or basalt and minerals like lava sand.
If you're potting up new plants, select a new pot just slightly larger than the one it came in. In the ground or in a container, avoid planting too deeply.

Feed your succulent plants with fish emulsion at 1/4 of its recommended rate.
