The #1 thing is to provide good sunlight, at least six hours a day. Select varieties that are recommended for the area. With the right rose, you'll have a lot less work to do. Plant in good, well-draining soil enriched with compost. Fertilize and water on a regular basis. Control diseases and pests that weaken the plant.
Again, proper cultivation and selecting the right rose prevents many problems and make it possible to have a fairly care-free lovely landscape addition.
