Tips of the Week

  • Fend off mosquitoes! Check container trays, patio furniture, gutters, and other niches where even a bit of water is enough for them to lay eggs.
  • Water your fruit trees especially well during the heat of summer. The health of the plant now will ensure a good fruit crop next spring.
  • Lightly prune plants that have gone to seed to tidy up and encourage new growth. However, leaving some seeds on native plants provides food for birds.
  • If Salvia coccineas are looking weary, prune back to a new leaf node to encourage more growth and flowers.
