Tips of the Week

  • Divide spring-flowering perennials like coneflower, Indian blanket, and yarrow.
  • Keep an eye out for vegetable insects. Apply Bt to cabbage loopers on blue-leaf crops, like cabbage, broccoli, and kale.
  • Continue planting wildflower seeds.
  • Get spring-flowering bulbs to plant in a few weeks in the garden or to force indoors.
  • Get ready to move your outdoor plants in. Drench them with diluted orange oil or soap to kill any pests that want to come in, too.
  • Continue planting your food garden.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, perennials and herbs. Now’s the best time to plant everything, except tropicals.
  • Mulch marginally cold-hardy plants.
