The Rules of Basketball is rare pairing of James Naismith’s 1891 “Original Rules of Basket Ball” document with an exhibition of works by contemporary artist Paul Pfeiffer. This juxtaposition of the authentic rules document and Pfeiffer’s works considers the sport from a historical perspective and explores the phenomena and spectacle that surround it. With this exhibition, the Blanton Museum has inspired cross-campus collaboration that unites art and sport.

The Rules of Basketball is on exhibit at the Blanton Museum from September 16 – January 13, 2013.

Music: “No Particular Night or Morning ” by Deadhorse

Since 2010, Jeff Bent has been creating a weekly comic in the ongoing The Machinators series. The comic focuses on an anti-hero’s battle against a teenage superhero group. Bent writes, draws and colors each comic and posts it online. This format allows the comic to reach a larger audience without the production costs of the traditional comic book format, while challenging him to create a new piece of the story each week.

Walter Cronkite left an indelible mark on the world of broadcast news. Today, journalists aren’t the only ones inspired by the anchor-legend. Ben Rubin’s public installation, And That’s The Way It Is, projects an interwoven grid of text onto the Communications A building. Rubin pieces together transcripts from Cronkite’s broadcasts with today’s news to create a tapestry of information. And That’s The Way It Is is presented by Landmarks, the public art program on The University of Texas at Austin campus, and is free and visible every evening in the Walter Cronkite Plaza.
