Crafting Comfort is a non-profit group dedicated to making handcrafted items designed to provide comfort. Working with local volunteers and businesses such as Stitch Lab, items are made for patients at local hospitals and medical facilities. One of the projects for Crafting Comfort is the creation of medical play dolls. These soft toys are given to children facing stressful situations at Dell Children’s Hospital and allow medical caregivers to explain medical procedures to the small patients. The kids are then allowed to take the toys home and even personalize them.

Pohela Boishakh, the South Asian New Year Festival, was introduced in North India over 400 years ago by the Mogul Emperor Akbar. This year’s celebration, according to the South Asian calendar, ushers in the year 1418.

On April 9, 2011, the South Asians in Central Texas showcase the historically rich, colorful culture of South Asian countries by hosting this free event at the Zilker Hillside Theater. Traditional home made South Asian foods, ethnic dress, indigenous arts and crafts, and open air performances of South Asian music and dance are featured at this celebration.
