We have experienced a technical issue and KLRU moved to channel 22 for some viewers. If you are currently receiving KLRU on channel 22, please rescan and the stations will return to 18! We’re sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for watching KLRU!

Time Warner Cable changes

Time Warner Cable has made a few changes that are affecting some customers and may depend on your digital television. If you have Time Warner and KLRU is no longer appearing, please have your TV rescan for channels. Once that is completed KLRU will be on 18-1, KLRU Create on 18-2, KLRU Q on 18-3 and Vme on 18-4. This change may not impact all Time Warner customers.

Create Technical Dificulties

Damaging storms on the East Coast have affected the national Create broadcast feed.  We are seeking a solution and will provide updates as soon as they become available.

Due to severe thunderstorms in the New York/DC area this past weekend leading to the fiber lines being down, an emergency loop feed is being used in place of regular programming on Create.  The issue started  on June 30th and has yet to be resolved.

All parties are working very hard to restore the feed. We will keep you updated on any further information we receive.

Technical Difficulties: Secondary Audio Program

When available, KLRU offers alternative audio services via the SAP service. SAP stands for Second Audio Program and it allows broadcasters to add another channel of audio to the programs we air.  KLRU uses SAP to broadcast both DVS (descriptive video service) for people who are visually impaired and Spanish-language audio.

Only about 30 percent of programs have the SAP/DVS feature. Some have only Spanish, some have DVS and some have both. SAP is a stereo service, a right and a left audio channel, with DVS carried in one channel and Spanish in the other. Currently, if a program has only Spanish or only DVS, that program’s SAP is correct. But when both Spanish and DVS are present on a program, the SAP is playing both at the same time making it so that viewers cannot get the audio content they need.

Fixing the problem is a technically complex issue which many other television stations have addressed by simply not offering the service.  That is not KLRU’s plan.  We are working to find a solution that will allow us to serve our viewers who’s primary language is Spanish and those who need the descriptive video service.

On air testing in progress this weekend

KLRU will be running a test on the air this weekend to determine the feasibility of adding a Mobile DTV channel to our signal. We have reserved 3Mbps of data space to simulate the configuration we would use if we add the Mobile DTV channel. This test could potentially cause some display problems, particularly with the HD signal. Please let us know here if you have any issues with picture quality over the weekend. KLRU’s engineering department will be closely monitoring the situation and if there is any significant signal degradation, KLRU will revert back to our standard configuration.

Technical issues on Grande

For the last week KLRU has had many calls and emails from Grande Communications customers about audio problems on their Channel 9. Grande is using a downconverted version of KLRU-HD and the device they are using is switching the primary and secondary audio streams. The result is either no audio or DVI/SAP audio on the main audio channel. Grande technical staff is working on the problem, but KLRU can’t be sure when it will be fixed. Technical difficulties

On behalf of all of us here at KLRU, we want to apologize to viewers for a series of technical errors that occurred on Thursday evening, May 14th.   We are still analyzing the issue, but it appears that a malfunction in the automation system led to several programs being cut off prematurely.  Unfortunately, among the affected programs was our own production of Ballet Austin’s Hamlet — a production we are very proud of and worked hard to ensure that the quality of the production reflected the high standards of Stephen Mills and Ballet Austin.

We have instituted back up measures that should prevent the problem from affecting programming while
we determine the cause of the problem.

Meanwhile, three more performances of Ballet Austin’s Hamlet have been scheduled:
May 24th at 4:30 pm,  following Live from Lincoln Center “NY City Ballet–Romeo & Juliet.”
June 4th, Thursday, at 8 pm
June 10th, Wednesday, at 7 pm

Again, we are very sorry for last night’s technical errors and we hope you tune into the rebroadcast of Hamlet.
