Calling All Chefs: Create Your Video for the 
Create Cooking Challenge

Starting today, professional chefs and home cooks who think their cooking warrants national attention may begin plotting production strategies for a short video submission for the Create Cooking Challenge: a national contest for individuals interested in winning their own web series on The official rules and a sample of the submission form are now available at to help entrants start work on their video.

The Create Cooking Challenge runs February 8 – 29, 2016. To participate, entrants must submit online a short (two minutes or less) video featuring their best culinary project, recipe, or tip. Open to home cooks and professional chefs, this contest will be judged by Create staff and an esteemed panel of public television chefs: Chris Kimball (America’s Test Kitchen and Cook’s Country), Pati Jinich (Pati’s Mexican Table), Jacques  Pépin (Jacques Pépin Heart & Soul), Sara Moulton (Sara’s Weeknight Meals), and Chef Irie (Taste the Islands with Chef Irie).

Winners will be announced on or about April 13, 2016. Prizes range from Create merchandise to $1,000 to finance a 10-episode web series on The contest is open to entrants 18 years and older.

Taste of Ireland 
Chef Kevin Dundon invites us into his kitchen for a sampling of Irish food made with a new, fresh approach. Taste everything from the appetizers to dessert in this marathon. In addition, Kevin provides historic and cultural anecdotes about the country he loves! Kevin and you – what a way to kick off St. Patrick’s Day!

Girly Girl
Sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what girl girls are made of. This crafty marathon featuring Georgia Bonesteel, Donna Dewberry and Vicki Payne; make items that a little girl would adore. Whether it’s a room makeover, a doll fashion studio or room accessories with the perfect feminine touch, the little girl in your life will feel pretty in pink!

Rise and Shine
What’s the most important meal of the day? Breakfast of course! Start your day with creative crepes, perfect pancakes and excellent eggs prepared by chefs Lidia Bastianich, Hubert Keller and Pati Jinich. With this caliber of cooks in the kitchen, you’ll never miss breakfast again!

Burt Wolf, Joseph Rosendo and Art Wolfe will take you on unforgettable journey through Alaska and Switzerland. Chef Tina Nordstrom is on a great adventure in Sweden – ice fishing and reindeer races are just some of the exciting activities she’ll be participating in. ou’ll have no choice but to be coo when this marathon is on.

August 10  Kitchen Makeover
It’s time for your kitchen to cook up a new look. From cabinets to countertops, we’re making changes that run the gamut of possibilities for a modern kitchen. Vicki and Sloan Payne add lightness and beauty to a kitchen with a stained-glass window. P. Allen Smith brings the outdoors inside with a kitchen open to the elements, while Matt and Shari of “Around the House” provides ample storage space for the bustling kitchen. Your kitchen will be fabulous after its facelift.

August 17  Take it Outside
There’s more room out than there is in… So take the fun outside!  Enjoy a meal prepared on the beach by Rick Bayless.  Then go on a picnic with Katie Brown and Pati Jinich.  John Shields takes us on a clambake.  It’s summertime, and why should you stay cooped up in the house?  Laugh and enjoy yourself with family and friends in the hot weather.

August 24  Beauty and the Beach
There’s nothing better than a gorgeous beach in an exotic locale.  Take a dip in these blue lagoons across the globe: Mozambique, Africa; Sydney, Australia; and Fiji Island amidst an unforgettable landscape.  Rudy Maxa and Joseph Rosendo join you on this wet and wild trip!

Hope you have your steak knife and napkins near by, this marathon is sure to be juicy! There’s no need to go to a Steakhouse.  Sizzling on your own grill, enjoy a great steak. Learn the tricks of the trade on preparing the perfect steak from the masters: Steven Raichlen, Lidia Bastianich and Chris Kimball.

July 27  Just Peachy
Sweet peaches are a favorite fruit of summer.  Whether they are a part of the main course or the dessert enjoy them in a variety of recipes prepared by, Ming Tsai, Jacques Pepin and Mary Ann Esposito.  This will be a peach of a marathon!

Julia Child, the Grand Dame of cooking will show you how to make the perfect three tiered wedding cake. Who needs a wedding planner when you have Katie Brown, to help you plan a simple yet elegant wedding? After the nuptials it’s off to the honeymoon! Glove trekkers Rudy Maxa and Joseph Rosendo will take  you to the most romantic getaways. Dinner for two is what’s on the menu to keep the love alive. Say I do!

Summer time is the right time to enjoy the flavor of sweet berries – strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Mexican cuisine is on full display as Rick Bayless and Pati Jinich bring you the best dishes Mexico has to offer! Rick and Pati are preparing seafood, giving recipes a boost with tequila and serving next level tacos! Your taste buds will enjoy the flavors at the Mexican Table.

Rise and Shine – May 11

Red, White and BBQ – May 25
The unofficial start of summer begins today. If you grill it, they will come, with forks, knives and a big appetite. Fear not as Create’s expert grill master, Steven Raichlen will show you how to cook the perfect steak and prepare ribs so succulent that they will make your mouth water. Just make sure you have plenty of napkins on hand, to wipe up all the barbecue sauce. Fire up teh grill and enjoy the first cookout of the season!

Starting at 10 am each Saturday, KLRU Create offers viewers themed programming to get you started on various projects. KLRU Create is on channel 18.2 over the air.

April 6  Simply Shrimp 
Who doesn’t love shrimp?  After this marathon you’ll love shrimp even more!  Shrimp is so versatile and our Create chefs show us how to work it into any recipe.  One bite of Chipotle Shrimp by Pati Jinich will immediately transport you to Mexico.  Sara La Fountain will show you how shrimp is done in Finland, with Shrimp Sandwiches.  Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Shrimp Scampi and Shrimp Parmigano is on Lidia Bastianich’s menu.  So many shrimp dishes in one marathon – it’s simply shrimp.

April 13  Travel Smart – Pacific Rim
Spend your weekend leisurely traveling the Pacific Rim with Rudy Maxa.  Journey from continent to continent, country to country.  Visit majestic landmarks of Australia, then work your way through Hong Kong and end your trip in the good ol’ U.S. of A, in San Francisco.  There’s a lot to see on this amazing tour!

April 20   It’s Not Easy Being Green 
In recognition of Earth Day, this eco-friendly marathon will show you how to recycle, repurpose and care for an organic garden.  Lifestyle experts, including P. Allen Smith, Michele Beschen, Vicki Payne and Sloan Payne-Rutter will help you follow the path to a “greener” life.

April 27 Motivation, Renovation
