<p><a href="http://www.klru.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/MMM-Headshot-e1367003907340.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-17695 alignright" alt="MMM Headshot" src="http://www.klru.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/MMM-Headshot-e1367003907340.jpg" width="300" height="351" /></a>Marc Morial is President of the National Urban League, the nation’s largest civil rights organization. He assumed that post in 2003, after Morial serving as Mayor of New Orleans from 1994-2002. Morial is credited with the city’s “renaissance” through police reforms, housing and neighborhood revitalization and investments in infrastructure. During his time in office, murders and violent crimes fell by 60% and the unemployment rate was cut in half. He left office with a 70 percent approval rating. Morial is in Austin to give the commencement address at Huston-Tillotson University.</p>

<p>Tony Kushner is an award-winning American playwright and screenwriter. He was recently nominated for an Oscar for his work on the screenplay of Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln. Kushner won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1993 for the play Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes. He has also won an Emmy Award, and two Tony Awards. If you can’t make it to our Overheard taping, you can also see Kusher in conversation with Evan Smith at the <a href="http://texasperformingarts.org/season/tony-kushner-austin">Texas Performing Arts Center</a> Monday, April 22, at 8 pm.</p>

<p>Larry Wilmore is “Senior Black Correspondent” for The Daily Show, along with being a television writer and producer. He started his career as an actor and stand-up comic before he began writing in the early 90s on shows like In Living Color and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. He also created The Bernie Mac Show. Recently he is a consulting producer on The Office. Wilmore is in town for a conversation on writing and producing comedy, presented by the <a href="http://www.austinfilmfestival.com/events/a-conversation-with-larry-wilmore?KL=0402">Austin Film Festival on Saturday</a>.</p>

Dan Balz is Chief Correspondent at the Washington Post, covering national politics. He previously served as National Editor at The Post, and as White House correspondent. Balz has also written two books, including the New York Times bestseller, “The Battle for America 2008.” He is a regular analyst on PBS’ “Washington Week” as well as other public affairs shows, including NBC’s “Meet the Press” and CBS’ “Face the Nation.” He is in Austin for the 2013 William Randolph Hearst Fellows Award Lecture at the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Communication.</p>

Sebastian Junger is an award-winning journalist and author. His book The Perfect Storm spent three years on the New York Times best-seller list and was later made into a major motion picture. His 2010 book WAR, about a U.S. Army platoon in Afghanistan, was also a best-seller. Junger is also a documentary filmmaker, his 2011 film Restrepo was nominated for an Oscar, and his newest film Which Way is the Front Line from Here? The Life and Time of Tim Hetherington will air on HBO in April. It was recently screened at the Sundance Film Festival. Junger is in Austin for a screening of the film at the LBJ Library.</p>

<p>Christopher Hayes is contributor and Editor at Large for The Nation and host of the MSNBC show Up w/ Chris Hayes, Saturday and Sundays at 7. Hayes is a former Fellow at Harvard University’s Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics. His writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Time, The New Republic, The Guardian and The Chicago Reader, among other publications. His book, Twilight of the Elites: America After Meritocracy, was published in June of 2012. Hayes is in Austin to sign copies at the SX Bookstore.</p>

<p>Comedian, writer and musician Fred Armisen is perhaps best known for his role on Saturday Night Live, now performing in his ninth season. He famously played then-Senator Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign. Armisen also stars in, and writes, Portlandia, a show he created on IFC with co-star Carrie Brownstein. Armisen began his career as a musician in Chicago-based punk band Trenchmouth. He added comedy to his resume in 1998, posing as a music journalist in the underground short film “Fred Armisen’s Guide to Music and SXSW.” Armisen is in town for SXSW Comedy.</p>

Annette O’Toole is a Houston-born film, TV and stage actress. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song with her husband Michael McKean in the film A Mighty Wind in 2004. O’Toole is best known to TV audiences for playing Martha Kent in Smallville. She is in Austin being honored by the Texas Film Hall of Fame.</p>

Actor Michael McKean was introduced to TV audiences when he played Lenny on Laverne &amp; Shirley. He went on to join the cast of Saturday Night Live. McKean is probably best known for his role in This is Spinal Tap, which he also helped write. He recently starred in The Best Man on Broadway, a role he had to give up when he was hit by a car in New York City last year. McKean is in Austin to present his wife, Annette O’Toole, an award on behalf of the Texas Film Hall of Fame.</p>

New York Times columnist David Carr has written about the business of the media for 25 years. Prior to joining the Times in 2002, Carr wrote for the Atlantic Montlhy and New York Magazine. His memoir, The Night of the Gun, uses investigative reporting tactics to chronicle his personal struggles with drug abuse. He is in Austin for SXSW Interactive.</p>

<p>Kasim Reed is Mayor of Atlanta and a rising star in the Democratic Party. He was elected in 2009 to his first term, and was a key surrogate for the Obama Administration during the 2012 presidential election. Prior to becoming mayor, Reed served in the Georgia General Assembly for 11 years. He is in town for the Texas Legislative Black Caucus Summit.</p>

She is the first Latino to serve on the country&#8217;s highest court, and the third woman. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Sotomayor was a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit since 1998. Her book, My Beloved World, chronicles her ascent from a South Bronx housing complex to Princeton University and Yale Law School. <p>Michael Oren has served as Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. since 2009. In a time of rumored tension between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Oren is the middle man between lawmakers in Washington and Jerusalem. Born and raised in the U.S., Oren gives a unique perspective into the long, complicated history of the United States and one of its closest allies. Oren is also an historian and author of two New York Times bestsellers about history in the Middle East.</p>
