AndyRoddickheadshotAndy Roddick is a former professional tennis player, former ATP World No. 1, and a philanthropist. He won his first Grand Slam singles title in 2003 and for the next decade was consistently ranked in the top 10. He was the youngest-ever ATP Player of the Year. Andy reached the Wimbledon finals three times in his career, and the Australian Open semi-finals four times. He retired from tennis in 2012. Andy is co-host of Fox Sports Live and of the Fox Sports Live podcast. The Andy Roddick Foundation provides out-of-school programs to underserved young people in Austin.

Cokie Roberts is a best-selling author, a contributor to NPR’s Morning Edition, and a Political Commentator for ABC News. Cokie co-anchored ABC’s This Week with Sam Donaldson from 1996-2002. She’s won numerous awards, including three Emmys, and was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame. Her new book, Capital Dames: The Civil War and the Women of Washington, 1848-1868, was published in April. She’s in Austin to speak and sign copies at BookPeople at 7pm.

Former Congressman Barney Frank represented the Fourth District of Massachusetts for more than three decades. Frank is known as one of the most prominent gay politicians in American history and was the first sitting member of Congress to enter a same-sex marriage. In 2010 he co-authored Dodd-Frank, the most far-reaching Wall Street reform bill since the Great Depression. His memoir Frank: A Life in Politics from the Great Society to Same-Sex Marriagewas recently published. Congressman Frank is in Austin to speak and sign copies at BookPeople immediately following our taping.

BernieSandersSenator Bernie Sanders is the junior senator from Vermont. He was re-elected to his second term in 2012. Sanders is the longest-serving Congressional Independent in US history. Before joining the Senate he served 16 years in the House representing Vermont’s at-large district. Senator Sanders identifies himself as a Democratic Socialist and is a champion of progressive causes. In 2014 he told The Nation he’s “prepared to run” for president in 2016.

Alex GibneyAlex Gibney is an Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker. He won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2008 for his film Taxi to the Dark Side. He received another Academy Award nomination in 2006 for Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, which also won the Independent Spirit Award and the WGA Award. Alex’s film Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief will air on HBO on March 29th. Based on Lawrence Wright’s book by the same name, the film was one of the most talked about at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. Alex’s other new film, Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, is premiering at SXSW.

unnamed (3)Salman Khan is the founder of Khan Academy, a non-profit providing online instruction to people all over the world. Sal founded Khan Academy in 2008. He began by tutoring his cousins remotely by video. The videos attracted a large YouTube following. Today, Khan Academy is an online learning platform which includes practice exercises, instructional videos, analytics and teacher tools. It has over 15 million registered users in over 190 countries and is available in around 28 languages. Sal Khan is the closing speaker at SXSWedu 2015.

unnamed (1)Kim Gordon is a founding member of Sonic Youth and author of the memoir Girl in a Band, which hits book sellers tomorrow. The memoir, which is already topping a number of must-read lists, chronicles her childhood in California, her time in New York in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and the rise of Sonic Youth. In addition to being a musician and author, Gordon is a fashion designer, actress and artist. She is in Austin to sign books and discuss Girl in a Band with Austin City Limits’ Terry Lickona at BookPeople on Friday, February 27. BookPeople will be selling any remaining autographed copies of the book at our taping.

David Axelrod is a political strategist and former Senior Advisor to President Obama. He ran both of President Obama’s campaigns in 2008 and 2012. In addition to his successful presidential campaigns with President Obama, he’s worked for a number of other big names in Democratic politics – Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Deval Patrick, and Rahm Emanuel, just to name a few. Overheard guests win big at Golden Globes

We’ve spoken to a number of impressive people in 5 seasons of Overheard with Evan Smith: winners of Oscars, Emmys, the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize, the Nobel Peace Prize, a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, just to name a few. At Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, some recent Overheard guests added more accolades to that list.

Austin’s own Richard Linklater won in top categories for his 2014 film Boyhood. Linklater took home statues for Best Director of a Motion Picture and Best Motion Picture, Drama. Patricia Arquette, who stars in the film, won for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. We sat down with Rick in July to discuss the film. You can see that interview in the clip above.

Another Season 4 guest, Jeffrey Tambor, won for Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy for his role in Transparent. Tambor taped Overheard during SXSW last year, when the show was only a pilot on Amazon. Now a series, it won for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy. You can watch the episode with him here.
