What do 902 minutes mean to you?

You’ve told us how important #YourKLRU is to you. And supporting public television is now more important than ever.

Take it from Chase Erwin, KLRU NEXT Member.

“I first donated to KLRU when I was in grade school. It was never very much. $5 whenever I had the chance… because I knew from an early age how important KLRU and PBS were to me. They helped me learn math, grammar and social studies. As I matured, my programming choices on KLRU did too. I’ve grown up with PBS every step of the way and I intend to continue watching and supporting my local public television station for many years to come.”

Stories like Chase’s validate what we already know — that public television is vital to the Central Texas community and worthy of your support.

So this June, we’re giving back 902 minutes of uninterrupted high-quality educational programming! But in exchange, we need your help to raise $100,000 in just five days during our online fund drive. Want to know more?

WHEN: Monday, June 5 – Friday, June 9. Circle the calendar!

WHAT: For the past two years, viewer response to KLRU’s online fund drives has been overwhelmingly positive. But what does an online fund drive mean? It means we’re NOT interrupting your regular schedule and we’re NOT breaking into your favorite shows to ask for support.

WHY: By eliminating an on-air pledge drive, we’re giving back 902 minutes of uninterrupted programming to you. That’s over 15 hours of your favorite shows! But we are relying on YOU to help us reach our goal so that fundraising drives can continue with zero program interruption.

HOW: Save the date to make a donation at klru.org June 5th through 9th and help spread the word on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by answering “What’s #YourKLRU?”. Or share your story with us here today!

You have the power to keep #YourKLRU thriving for years to come. Can we count on you to make a difference this June?

Your support is more important than ever!

You have the power to keep public television in Central Texas thriving for years to come. So, we couldn’t be more thankful that YOU answered our call for support by making a gift during our Spring Fund Drive!

Because of YOU… KLRU raised over $243,000 for the programs you love to watch and the vital community services we provide to Central Texans. Not only that, you helped us meet the generous $10,000 challenge match from Lonnie & Polly Cooper in less than 24 hours, allowing us to end our fund drive one day early! All in all, more than 1,400 donors stepped forward to join us in the proud PBS tradition.

What’s more, we loved hearing why supporting KLRU and PBS is essential to YOU! Here’s what first time donor Jeni Williams shared with us when she made her gift:

“I have enjoyed PBS for most of my life and the programming on KLRU since moving to Austin a decade ago. While I have considered supporting KLRU for most of that time, I never actually pulled the trigger. This email was the perfect encouragement to do so, especially in the current political climate. Thank you for bringing diverse voices into the living rooms of thousands, encouraging conversations between family and friends, and teaching our little ones not only their ABC’s, but also how to live with compassion and understanding.”

Now it’s your turn! Would you be willing to share why supporting public television is important to you or how KLRU/PBS has impacted your life? We’re collecting stories to be featured on-air and online. Tell us… What’s #YourKLRU?

Be the power of public television!

What would the past year have been like without public television?

Imagine it — a year without Masterpiece, PBS NewsHour or Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. No NOVA to help explain the latest scientific discoveries in the world. No American Experience to help us reflect on our shared history as a nation.

Unlike commercial stations, where advertisers hold the power, on KLRU the power resides with YOU!

As your local PBS station, we only have to answer to the community we serve… because it’s your support that makes all these programs possible!

You have the power to protect the present and future of your favorite PBS programs. Won’t you help KLRU and local public television continue to thrive by making a gift today?

Your gift to KLRU now has twice the power

Lonnie & Polly Cooper, longtime supporters of KLRU, challenge you to support KLRU. In their own words, here’s why:

I’ve been asked many times why I believe in KLRU and the power of public television. My strong support for KLRU can be summed up in just a few words: constant, reliable and trustworthy.

KLRU & PBS allow us the opportunity to see the world from an honest perspective, presenting a multitude of viewpoints in their programming. I’m reminded of what I saw the first time I watched Sesame Street… I saw different types of people that did not always agree, but accepted each other for who they were and never stopped loving them. Without PBS, my family and I would likely not have the same understanding of the importance of diversity and positive conflict resolution.

This is why my wife, Polly, and I are pleased to present KLRU with a $10,000 matching gift promise and challenge YOU to support quality public television in Central Texas. Your gift of any amount will have twice the power to build a more informed, connected and educated community thanks to this dollar for dollar match.

KLRU is a promise. The good kind. When I turn on KLRU, there has never been a time that I’ve had to ask myself, is this something I can watch with my family?

Won’t you join us in helping ensure this promise remains for years to come?

Sincerely,
Lonnie & Polly CooperDonateButton.png

Wanna monkey around this spring? Win a Family 4 Pack to the Austin Zoo!

Engage with KLRU to win passes to Austin Zoo!

KLRU airs Spy in the Wild, A Nature Miniseries tonight at 7 p.m. This groundbreaking production sent spycams disguised as animatronic animals into natural animal habitats. The intimately recorded videos show behaviors in the wild that are rarely observed. Luckily, Austin has a zoo where you can watch a wide variety of wildlife up close and we want to send one lucky family of four to check it out.

Austin Zoo’s main mission is to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need. Located on the southwest edge of Austin off of Highway 290 West and Circle Drive, Austin Zoo is at the gateway of the Hill Country. Enjoy educational zookeeper talks and see remarkable animals, such as lions and tigers and bears! Between taking in the many creatures and the beautiful scenery, you can even settle down for a nice meal as outside picnics are welcome.

Engage with us on social media or make a donation to #yourKLRU to win an Austin Zoo Family 4 Pack. There are 4 ways to enter, which means 4 chances to win!
