KLRU Highlights

Arts In Context presents Schubertiad Sunday at 2:30 pm. The Miro Quartet performs music from popular composer Franz Schubert in front of a live studio audience.

Masterpiece presents Downton Abbey Season 4, Part 4 Sunday at 8 pm. Change is in the air as three generations of the Crawley family have conflicting interests in the estate.

Sherlock, Series III: The Sign Of Three premieres on Masterpiece Mystery! Sunday at 9 pm. Sherlock Holmes stalks again in a third season of the modern version of the Arthur Conan Doyle classic.

Antiques Roadshow visits Detroit, Michigan for the Motown Museum to discuss memorabilia that hits a high note with collectors Monday at 7 pm.

The four candidates in the Republican Primary for Texas Lieutenant Governor square off in The Texas Debates: Race for Lieutenant Governor, Monday at 8 pm.

Independent Lens presents The State Of Arizona Monday at 9 pm. This film captures the explosive emotions and complex realities behind Arizona’s headline-grabbing struggle with illegal immigration.

Visa Dream premieres Monday at 10:30 pm and tells the touching story of one family’s experience gainign entry into the United States.

PBS Newshour “State of the Union Address along with Republican response Tuesday at 8 pm

Nature‘s The Funkiest Monkeys premieres Wednesday at 7 pm. This film explores the recent decreased number of the crested black macaques in the island of Indonesia, Sulawesi.

NOVA follows archeologists and forensic experts in Ireland’s County Tipperary in the methodical hunt for clues to the identity and the circumstances of various violent death of bog body victims in Ghosts Of Murdered Kings, Wednesday at 8 pm.

Hawking Wednesday at 9 pm presents the intimate and revealing story of Stephen Hawing’s life.

Overheard with Evan Smith features author Amy Tan Thursday at 7 pm.

Arts In Context presents Thirst Thursday at 7:30 pm. Explore an art installation takes on the pressing issue of water shortages and challenges the community to action.

One Square Mile: Texas presents San Antonio Thursday at 8  pm. This square mile in Southtown, San Antonio includes the historic King William District and the up-and-coming neighborhood of Lavaca.

The Daytripper visits Georgetown, Texas Thursday at 8:30 and visits the “oldest University in Texas.”

Great Performances present Barrymore Friday at 8 pm. This film adaptation of William Luce’s 1997 play is set in 1942 during the final months of Barrymore’s life.

Bring on the bees to renew populations of these essential pollinators with Central Texas Gardener‘s Bee Happy, Saturday at noon an d 4 pm.

Sarah Jarosz and The Milk Carton Kids perform on Austin City Limits Saturday at 7 pm.

Father Brown becomes embroiled with a theatrical family when he discovers that a supposed tragic drowning was actually a murder in The Flying Stars, Saturday at 8 pm.

 

Austin City Limits Signed Poster Auction!

The tapings for season 39 of Austin City Limits may be well under way, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still revel in the great times from season 38 – and what better way to remember the incredible line up than owning one (or all!) of the limited edition signed band posters.

To kick off the KLRU June fundraising drive, we have organized an eBay auction of signed, limited edition band posters from ACL’s season 38 – the auction will be up until June 13, so bid now and bid often to get your favorite performer’s poster into your personal collection.

Also available in the auction is an original poster signed by ALL artists at the KLRU All Star Celebration featuring The Dixie Chicks, Courtyard Hounds, Natalie Maines & Ben Harper in a tribute to Lloyd Maines with special guests Joe Ely, Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis, Terry Allen, Carolyn Wonderland & Terri Hendrix.

#CookForJulia: ACL's Music in the Kitchen!

Thanks to Glenda Facemire, ACL’s long time makeup artist and stylist, we unearthed a Julia Child Pot Roast recipe from Music in the Kitchen: Favorite Recipes from Austin City Limits Performers, a beautiful book that Glenda created a few years ago.

Robbie Fulks, alt-country singer-songwriter, chose Julia Child’s Pot Roast because “it never fails.”

Hope you join us tonight for Julia Child’s 100th Birthday Celebration at 7pm on KLRU – we’ll be airing some of the greatest French Chef episodes and have Austin chefs answering your phone calls – we’ll also have tons of giveaways so tune in and support KLRU tonight!
