Each month, KLRU chooses a program for your family to enjoy together. This month’s Family Choice program is NATURE‘s “Legendary White Stallions” focusing on the bond between the horses and their caregivers.

Airs Wednesday, May 1st at 7:00 pm
repeats: Thursday, May 2nd at 3:00 am; Friday, May 3rd at 3:00 am;
Sunday, May 5th at 2:00 am; Sunday, May 5th at 6:00 pm

This story of the world-famous Lipizzaner stallions focuses on the bond that develops between the horses and their caregivers, beginning at the moment of their birth and culminating in the perfect harmony between horse and rider demonstrated at the famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria. Their carefully choreographed movements were originally developed for the training of war horses; only the strongest and most athletic horses qualified. The Lipizzaner stallion is bred for its courage, strength and character, but the horse is also gentle, sensitive, and exceptionally responsive to praise.

Babies / Fast – Monday, April 15 at 8:30 am & 2 pm
Babies – Sally is looking after some baby hamsters, but how can she and Nick hold them right? Well, different animals hold their babies different ways.
Fast – It’s a race to the treehouse, but Nick and Sally wish they could go as fast as an airplane! How about a peregrine? asks The Cat. What’s that? The fastest creature in the world!

Little Lemmings / Keep The Beat — Tuesday, April 16 at 8:30 am & 2 pm
Little Lemmings – It’s cold outside, but Nick and Sally want to keep playing. Is there a way to stay warm out in the cold? Cat’s friend Lars the Lemming will know! He lives in the Wundra-Bundra-Tundra. It’s cold out, but with Lars’ fur coat, he doesn’t even notice!
Keep the Beat – Nick and Sally have been running around the backyard and now their chests are thumpity thumping! The Cat explains that that is their hearts boom boom booming! But why? wonders Sally.

Gorillas In The Nest / Tale Of A Dragon — Wednesday, April 17 at 8:30 am & 2 pm
Gorillas in the Nest – Sally and Nick have made a sleepover tent on the floor. But it’s not very comfortable. The Cat’s friend Gordon the Gorilla knows how to make a comfortable bed.
Tale of a Dragon – Dragons don’t really exist, but Cat knows some lizard friends who are oh-so like dragons! They can show Nick and Sally how to pretend to be dragons.

This month’s Family Choice program is NATURE‘s “Clash: Encounters of Bears and Wolves” documenting the clash of these two predators for the control of the food supply in Yellowstone.

Airs Wednesday, April 10th at 7 pm
repeats: Thursday, April 11th at 3:00 am; Friday, April 12th at 3:00 am,
Sunday, April 14th at 2:00 am & 6 pm;

What happens when two great predators come face to face in Yellowstone? The grizzly and the wolf — they couldn’t be more different. The bear is a loner, ranging far and wide in search of a rich variety of resources. The wolf hunts to survive and finds its strength in speed and teamwork. Their strategies have taken them to the very top of Yellowstone, and it’s no simple matter when they meet. In every encounter, the opposition must be measured, strengths must be tested, and risks must be carefully weighed. Each time, one of them will have a tactical advantage — but which one, and when? What emerges as each remarkable scene unfolds, is the keen awareness that runs through all of Yellowstone. Elk and eagle, coyote and raven, otter and owl, every creature must assess, decide, and act — to fight or to flee? It’s all in knowing your own strengths and limitations in the heat of the moment in Yellowstone.

180 Days takes viewers on a uniquely intimate journey through a year in the lives of students, teachers and school leaders in one Washington, DC public high school. The series is framed by volatile national and local politics aimed at reforming this most fundamental of public institutions, but the lives at the center of “180 Days,” most especially those of the five students whose stories take the viewer from the day 1 to day 180, seem at once deeply impacted by and yet profoundly separate from the “Race to the Top.”
