Film School Shorts new season starts Sept. 11

Film School Shorts is a national public television series showcasing short film from emerging filmmakers from around the country.  The new season will air on Mondays after POV or Independent Lens. In Sept. the start time will be 10 pm each week

First Gen 101 Sept. 11
Three stories of misadventure as first generation Americans navigate identity, love and acceptance amid converging cultures. Films include Fanny Pack – Uttera Singh, Prom – Imran J. Khan, and Groomed – Wyatt Rockefeller.

Blood & Water Sept. 18
Traverse the North American West with three stories that explore the struggle between man and nature. Films include La Graduacion – Rafael Gomez, Rituals – Isabelle Aspin, and Bloodlines – Christopher Nataanii.

Coming Home Sept. 25
Three young women confront difficult homecomings. Films include AWOL – Deb Shoval, When We Were Young – Gabrielle Capili, and Bookends – Dominic Villarrubia.

Pet Problems Oct. 2
Three wayward pets wreak havoc on the lives of their owners, neighbors and even distant acquaintances. Films include Rosie, Oh – Andy Kroeger, The Execution – Elise Ahrens, and Cupcake Bob – Olivia Accardo.

Stranger Desires Oct. 9
Tom and Myrna are looking for love in all the wrong places in two stories of
misplaced affections. Films include Tom – Michael Smigel and Mr. Lamb – Jean Pesce

Uncharted Waters Oct. 16
Whether in rural Japan or Oregon – fitting in isn’t easy for two young men struggling to define their manhood without fathers. Films include Stage Two – Lara Gallagher and Born With It – Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour.

Hidden Passions
Vulnerability is embraced as three people learn to let go and reveal their secret passions to the world. Films include Festus – Shawn Snyder, Yeah Kowalski – Evan Roberts, and Clean – Gabriel Wilson

Border Crossings
Two short films follow families as they travel great distances, both physically and emotionally, to find a new home. Films include Sweet, Sweet Country – Dehanza Rogers and We are the Immigrants – Catalina Matamoros Puerto

Magical Beasts
From the coast of Ireland to Norway’s dense forest to a young girl’s imagination – magical beasts lurk in the shadows. Films include Theodora – Mike Makowsky, Vilt Gutt – Dawson Taylor, and Salt – Ugla Hauksdóttir.

Bewitched
A church-going woman in South Africa attempts to befriend her hairdresser neighbor, a rumored murderer. uNomalanga and the Witch – Palesa Shongwe.
