On Great Houses With Julian Fellowes Burghley House, Sunday at 7 p.m., join Fellowes to visit Burghley, for 500 years the home of heirs of William Cecil, the political brain and iron fist behind the throne of Elizabeth I. He hears tales of royals and commoners, including a farmer’s daughter who married the tenth earl.

On Masterpiece Downton Abbey Season 5, Episode 5, Sunday at 8 p.m., Rose makes a handsome new acquaintance. Something is wrong with Thomas. Edith’s link to Marigold draws attention. Bricker and Robert lose control.

Delve into a wealth of stories, traditions and unexpected characters that nourish this nation of immigrants on Off The Menu Asian America, Monday at 10 p.m. Go into the kitchens, factories, temples and farms of Asian Pacific America to explore how the bond with food reflects an evolving community.

Tuesday at 7 p.m., view dozens of classic TV and movie clips and hear comments from Moore’s co-stars and Moore herself on Mary Tyler Moore: A Celebration. Oprah Winfrey recounts Moore’s critical role in inspiring her – and millions of others – as TV’s first independent career woman.

In the second program of this series, Tuesday at 8 p.m., Frontline From Jesus To Christ: The First Christians examines the period after the first revolt, tracing the development and impact of the Gospels and looking at the increasingly hostile relationship between the Christians and the Jews. The broadcast documents the extraordinary events of the second and third centuries in which Christianity grew from a small Jewish sect to an official religion of the Roman Empire.

With China’s assent to world superpower status heating up American fears, Tom Xia challenges the Joneses to make it through the Christmas season without any Chinese products on Xmas Without China, Tuesday at 10 p.m. Xia begins a journey to find American identity amongst all the American media hype, Chinese nationalist propaganda and cultural misunderstandings.

“Honey badger is bad ass.” Those words and corresponding video became a YouTube sensation with 51 million hits. Learn more about this relentless little creature renowned for its ability to confront grown lions, castrate charging buffalo, and shrug off the toxic defenses of stinging bees, scorpions, and snakes on Nature Honey Badgers: Masters of Mayhem, Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Beneath the streets of Rome lies an ancient city of the dead known as the Catacombs — a labyrinth of tunnels, hundreds of miles long, lined with tombs. Wednesday at 8 p.m., NOVA Roman Catacomb Mystery goes inside a previously-unknown complex within the tunnel system: a mysterious mass grave, locked away for nearly 2000 years. NOVA‘s forensic investigation opens up fascinating new insights into the daily life and health of Roman citizens at the heyday of its mighty empire.

Wednesday at 9 p.m., Craft In America Celebration explores craft artists, objects and traditions of various holidays, featuring Lion Dancers and float builders of San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade, ceramic artists in Detroit making festive pieces at Pewabic Pottery and Motawi Tileworks, Kwanzaa celebrations in Chicago and Oakland, and woodblock Christmas cards made by Yoshiko Yamamoto in Washington state.

The best in British pop comes to ACL on Austin City Limits Emeli Sande/Michael Kiwanuka, Wednesday at 10 p.m. Scotswoman Sande performs hits from her LP Our Version of Events, while Kiwanuka plays tunes from his debut LP Home Again.

Overheard with Evan Smith William Gibson, Thursday at 7 p.m., finds the acclaimed science fiction novelist, essayist, and screenwriter, known for coining the term “cyberspace” in conversation. He has been called the “noir prophet” of the “cyberpunk” community.

Banjo Romantika: American Bluegrass Music and the Czech Imagination introduces the musicians who play this unique bluegrass hybrid. Czechs first heard bluegrass during World War II when the Armed Forces Network broadcast American music for soldiers. Inspired by classic American bluegrass sounds, an assortment of musicians from across the formerly communist Czech Republic have melded the past, the political and the present into a lively musical tradition entirely its own. Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday at 8:30 p.m., Chet heads to Grapevine, the “Christmas Capital of Texas” to catch the spirit of the season on The Daytripper Grapevine, Tx. He visits main street to eat at a French bakery, tours a winery, sees amazing sculptures of ice at the Gaylord Texan, and finishes it off on the historic railroad bound for the North Pole.

Civic Summit Stop The Drop: Engaging Students In Their Futures, Thursday at 9 p.m., is a townhall discussion of students and educators explores why some youth drop out of school. Texas boasts an 88% graduation rate, second only to Iowa. Those numbers are high, but why are some students still not graduating?

Live from Lincoln Center Sinatra At 100 With The New York Philharmonic, Friday at 8 p.m., celebrates the 100th birthday of Frank Sinatra with a star-studded concert event featuring Christina Aguilera, Chris Botti, Fantasia, Sutton Foster, Bernadette Peters and Sting. Seth MacFarlane hosts.

Austin City Limits Emeli Sande/Michael Kiwanuka airs again Friday at 9:30 p.m.

Friday at 10:30 p.m., join host Hugh Bonneville on Salute To Downton Abbey to recall the high points of the series storyline and its memorable cast of characters. Watch interviews with Julian Fellowes, Gareth Neame and the cast, clips from previous seasons and tantalizing previews of season 6.
