Stories of Service November 9

KLRU joins Stories of Service once again to honor our men and women of war. On Sunday, November 9, from 1 pm to 4 pm, two programs will highlight the heroes of America. It’s part of the national initiative called Stories of Service designed to increase dialogue and solutions as our nations veterans transition to civilian life.

Craft in America: Service at 1 pm:
From the origins of the Army Arts & Crafts Program and the G.I. Bill to contemporary soldiers and veterans, Service documents the power of the handmade to inspire, motivate and heal.

Warriors Return at 4 pm:
Navajo veterans of beautiful Canyon de Chelly, AZ have served as Code Talkers in WWII, Army Rangers in Viet Nam and most recently in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, their dedication and courage in battle has not protected them from the formidable challenges facing them when they return home. Viewers will see how strong women, traditional healing and western talk therapy are helping these warriors return.

These PBS programs are part of a national, multi-platform initiative called Stories of Service and a community engagement campaign funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). The Stories of Service collection on PBS’ website includes rotating films and videos, encompassing both new and archival programs, resources for educators and students courtesy of PBS LearningMedia and resources for veterans.  The conversation will continue across social media using #ServiceStoriesPBS.
