Joyce BandaMalawian President Joyce Banda was sworn in as president in April 2012, following the death of former President Bingu wa Mutharika. She is the first female president of the African nation and the second female head of state. Banda is also the founder of the Joyce Banda Foundation, which works to make women financially independent. The foundation also runs two schools, a farm and builds clinics in Malawi. President Banda is in Austin for the Gilbert M. Grosvenor Distinguished Lecture at Texas State University.PLEASE NOTE: The KLRU lobby on the 3rd floor of the University of Texas CMB building will be closed due to construction.
