KLRU Q Celebrates Woody Guthrie on 8/5

Woody Guthrie influenced the major folk blues artists of today. And farming and trains were a big influence on the singer/songwriter. Join KLRU Q in a celebration of Woody Guthrie.

Woody Guthrie at 100! Live at the Kennedy Center at 2 pm
Join us for a centennial celebration of American’s greatest folk musician, Woody Guthrie. Woody Guthrie at 100! Live at the Kennedy Center is produced and directed by four-time Emmy award-winning filmmaker Jim Brown in collaboration with The Grammy Museum Foundation, Woody Guthrie Publications, and The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This concert brings John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, Tom Morello, Ry Cooder, Ani DiFranco, Rosanne Cash, The Old Crow Medicine Show, and others together to honor the music and the man. It’s a celebration like no other, recorded live at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

A Farm Story with Jerry Apps is a portrait of farm life seen through the eyes of a boy growing up in rural America in the 1930s and 1940s. Using archival photos and film, teacher, author and historian Jerry Apps tells the story of growing up in Wild Rose, Wisconsin – America’s archetype rural farming community. A Farm Story is the personal and family story of millions of American’s who grew up on farms. Like a family photo album for millions of Americans, the documentary takes the viewer through memories of “things that aren’t there anymore” and of experiences that created their values of hard work, determination and community — values that drive a generation of Americans who grew up on the farm.

Hosted by Grammy-winning musician and storyteller David Holt, TRAINS AROUND NORTH AMERICA traces America’s railroad history, telling the unforgettable stories of the continent’s historic and scenic tourist railroads. More than just a tour, these stories capture railroads as they defined the spirit of North America, creating a new industry and re-writing transportation history. The program transports viewers to a variety of railways – from quiet and relaxing trains featuring spectacular meals and views, to fast-paced trains full of glitz, glamour and movie stars.
