She is the first Latino to serve on the country’s highest court, and the third woman. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Sotomayor was a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit since 1998. Her book, My Beloved World, chronicles her ascent from a South Bronx housing complex to Princeton University and Yale Law School.
