Why KLRU?

Maybe it's because when I saw the Masterpiece mailing earlier today I actually squeed at the thought that Downton Abbey's second season will start soon.

Maybe it's because my six-year-old became obsessed with Eris when she was 4 after we showed her her first Nova episode, The Pluto Files. Maybe it's because now she's contemplating travel to Mars and indefinite lifespans as we've been catching up on old Nova: Science Now episodes.

Or maybe it's because here in Austin, we've encountered the best family show in recent decades: The Biscuit Brothers. We're such big fans that I'm only on my computer now to take a break from working on the cake I'm donating to their fundraiser tomorrow night at Pioneer Farms. Yes, I think that's it...while KLRU is the portal by which we get those great national and international shows, the real connection is to the local awe and wonder on my child's face every time she goes back and forth between TV and real life to see Dusty and Buford sing for her, Austin, and families everywhere.

I like KLRU because it helped introduce me to Doctor Who not to mention that it brings me enjoyable and informational science-focused shows with Brian Greene and Neil deGrasse Tyson. It also provides great programming at every hour. As a current college student, I don't always get to watch shows when they initially air but KLRU really stands out because even when I'm taking a break from studying at 2 AM I know that as soon as I turn it on that I'll find something great to watch.
