Kevin Whately returns as Inspector Lewis for a second season. The much loved Oxford policeman is once again joined by Laurence Fox (A Room with a View) as Lewis’ young partner DS Hathaway. And as the relationship between Inspector and Sergeant grows and develops we see new sides to the inimitable duo on Masterpiece Mystery! at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Uncovers a stoic act of defiance and dignity behind the Stalag 17′s barbed wire on History Detectives 8 p.m. Monday.

In his illustrious career, Herbert von Karajan led the legendary Berlin Philharmonic for 35 years; he was also closely associated with the Vienna Philharmonic and served as artistic director of the Vienna State Opera on Great Performances at 9 p.m. Monday.

Reading Rainbow says goodbye

Reading Rainbow will no longer be provided by PBS to stations for broadcast starting on Aug. 28. No new episodes of the children’s program have been produced for several years and PBS removed the series from its daily lineup last fall to make room for new programs with reading and science/math content. After nearly a after a quarter century on public television, the series will no long be broadcast over the air. Producers of the series are working to continue the show online and DVDs of episodes will be available through Shop PBS.

Kevin Whately returns as Detective Inspector Robbie Lewis in the spin-off to the popular Inspector Morse series on Masterpiece Mystery! at 8 p.m. Sunday.

History Detectives at 8 p.m. Monday travel to Austin to discover if a balloon fragment is a piece of Japanese balloon that floated across the Pacific Ocean in 1945 as a balloon bomb.

My Music at 8:30 p.m. Sunday presents its first Big Band music retrospective featuring the biggest songs that got us through World War II and kick-started the baby boom with brassy legends that will take viewers on a “Sentimental Journey”.

Thanks to our volunteers

One of my favorite parts of my job is working with phone volunteers from the community during our on-air fundraising drives. I meet people from all over Austin and the surrounding area who each bring something unique to the studio. I’ve gotten to know several of the regulars who volunteer during each drive and look forward to seeing them again when we go on-air to speak directly to the community about KLRU.

Another fun part of working with the phone volunteers is welcoming the new people who come in for the first time. It is a treat to work with them while they enjoy meeting new people and see what goes on behind-the-scenes to make live television happen. Thank you to all our volunteers who help make our fundraising drives a success.
