Brunner Thu, 16 Apr 2009 01:04:35 +0000 http://www.klru.org/?p=356#comment-388 In addition to shopping centers whose traffic patterns were very poorly planned (Arborwalk, Gateway and the shopping center at 183 and Mopac where Barbecues Galore is one of the few stores still open, etc.), Austin has no east-west thoroughfare. At a city council meeting two years ago, it seemed that the city council (including Brewster McCracken and Jennifer KiM) seemed to think the solution to this problem was to allow this traffic to go through a residential area as it has been for some time. Who is responsible for responsible planning and what would be your solution to the serious problem of no east-west thoroughfare in this city?

I am concerned about affordable housing in Austin. I have seen high-end condos grow up like mushrooms while affordable housing becomes more scarce. Even in a time when real estate prices have been crashing, home prices and rent levels in Austin remain obscenely high. What do you intend to do as mayor to make Austin housing affordable for middle-class people?
