Austin City Limits General Manager
KLRU is seeking a General Manager for the award-winning program, Austin City Limits. Incumbent will be responsible for building a team and setting a path for the future of ACL, represent and manage the brand assets (trademark, production archives, etc.) on behalf of KLRU, generate revenue through sponsorship and licensing relationships, and direct the evolving series initiatives - including digital and online ventures, opportunities afforded by a new production venue, events and more.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages P/L for Austin City Limits enterprise.
- Develops and manages the execution of annual strategic and tactical plans for Austin City Limits, including distribution (broadcast, recordings, online, mobile), merchandising, licensing, and other enterprise activities.
- Manages relations with existing Series sponsors and recruits new sponsors when necessary, analyzing the market for the most advantageous prospects and developing sponsorship agreements.
- Identifies opportunities to license ACL assets and works closely with legal counsel to develop licensing agreements.
- Shares oversight of ACL’s production with the Series Producer, including but not limited to budgeting, contracts and planning.
- Manages relationships with PBS and recommends ways to increase series performance on PBS.
- Responsible for ACL partner relations, including co-producers, merchandise, record labels, corporate clients, digital partners, music industry and licensees.
- Primary staff support to ACL Management Committee of the KLRU Board of Directors.
- Coordinates with KLRU's development staff to maintain and grow station’s ACL related philanthropic strategy, including events and Friends of ACL.
Knowledge and Skills required:
- At least 3-5 years of demonstrated success managing entertainment related ventures or programs, with preference given to experience in music, broadcast, or online content.
- Experience in, and understanding of, emerging digital business models and broadband/mobile music applications and opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience in entertainment industry licensing and business models, including rights management, merchandising, syndication, and sponsorship, among other disciplines.
- Demonstrated strategic planning and marketing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams and manage multiple projects and partner relationships.
- Understanding of the public television system and broadcast production practices a plus.
- Experience working for and with not-for-profit organizations helpful, particularly experience with hybrid non-profit/for-profit collaborations or enterprises.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises small internal staff.
- Responsibility for leading teams with members drawn from different departments.
- Manages contract with series producer and other vendor and licensing agreements.

Viewer Services Manager (pdf)
KLRU-TV, Austin PBS seeks a Viewer Services Manager to manage viewer relations and customer service, including answering viewer/member questions via phone and email, assisting the Development Director in executing KLRU’s direct mail strategy, and managing thank you gift fulfillment. The ideal candidate has a bachelors degree, at least 3 years customer service experience, excellent organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. Experience using Raiser’s Edge software preferred. Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to:
- Serve as the primary telephone contact for the Membership department, building positive community relations and reinforcing the station’s commitment to customer service through professional, courteous and prompt processing of viewer phone calls and emails.
- Manage and track member/viewer feedback in the Raiser’s Edge.
- Assist the Development Director in executing KLRU’s direct mail strategy.
- Survey caller preferences and opinions, tracking their responses.
- Craft responses to member/viewer correspondence.
- Gather vendor information on thank you gifts for pledge drives.
- Manage inventory of thank you gifts.
- Maintain database of thank you gifts for pledge drives.
- Order thank you gifts for periodic pledge drives.
- Manage relationships with thank you gift vendors and fulfillment service.
- Track thank you gifts using the Raiser’s Edge database.
- Create reports and track stats on thank you gift fulfillment.
- Assist in management and entry of online gifts.
- Create fundraising and donor reports from the donor database.
- Assist in gift entry during peak periods and/or absence by Database Manager.
- Assist in processing and mailing donor acknowledgement letters during peak periods.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by the Development Director.
- Assist with preparation for and attend donor events as needed.
- Maintain member and departmental confidentiality on all matters related to the financial dealings of the department.

Production Intern
Under the supervision of the Broadcast Operations Manager, interns will be responsible for assisting the staff in various phases of production. The internship program is designed to provide opportunities for students to learn about all phases of production including:
- Tape logging
- EFP field production
- Pre- and Post-production coordinating
- Research and story development
- Studio production
The interns will work closely with producers, crew, and management staff to gain a full understanding of television production. In providing an opportunity for students to learn production from these various areas, the interns will be required to have the following skills:
- General knowledge of broadcast media
- Excellent written and oral skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Internet browsers
- A general sense of administrative management
For qualified interns working for KLRU, duties may include but are not limited to:
- Assist the production staff in various aspects of field production such as field shoots, logging tapes, video duplication, online research, and other duties as assigned
- Research show topics via newspaper, magazine, online services as well as initiating telephone calls to applicable guests
- Attend studio and field productions when available
- Attain skills to assist in the producing of segments, which will include the field producing, logging and editing of applicable segments
- Provide clerical and administrative support for the production and management of local KLRU productions
In accordance with KLRU intern programs, the intern must:
- Be in attendance of an accredited college or university at the undergraduate or graduate level
- Earn academic credit for internship
- Provide confirmation of credit eligibility from college registrar’s office
- Work a minimum of 12 hours per week, 150 per semester
Students interning for KLRU will have their internships terminated if they:
- Do not maintain a consistent work schedule
- Show a limited interest in the production process
- Do not notify staff of tardiness or absence
- Are unable to perform required duties listed above
- Students whose internship is terminated will not receive college credit
Internship is unpaid.
